I'm proud that I remember most of Saturday, despite drinking gin on a mostly empty stomach. Nico, Steven's coworker, had a party that I feared would be slew of awkward Rice undergrads. (Didn't want to subject 28 year-old Eric to that.) But oh no. Guanatmontrose dominated. Hallie might have been rolling 25 deep.
It was basically like one of Raj's crazy post-modern barn parties but with a professional-ish photographer and a projector and bigger speakers. I'm posting Logan Beck's photos because they're great, and some of you might not be able to see the album on fb.

For his morning commute:
Ponasaurs don't sit around London train stations eating marmalade sandwiches. Ponasaurs are full of bloodlust. They wear muzzles made of storm clouds. Only talking teddy bears can tame them.
The inside cover has an alpaca and a gooey gum drop monster. Hey, don't you wish you were dating someone as bright and ponasaurusy as I am?
( Track listing )
Speaking of mythical creatures, Sasquatch's lump is not a bunny baby bump, much to the disappointment of Us Weekly and TMZ. Not cancer, not clogged intestines either. It might be an enlarged spleen or liver. (SAS U DO 2 MUCH BOOZIN.) Still, the vet says no worries. Maybe if a certain someone wouldn't feed him beer at parties...

They play this nonstop on xmu. Thought I'd share. When I first heard it I laughed and asked Kyle "Is this an Animal Collective cover, except changed to My Boys?" He asked who Animal Collective was.

| halloween mix |
[14 Oct 2009|06:48pm] |
I'm going to make a Halloween-themed mix. Does anyone have any songs to recommend that are creepy or haunting, preferably with scary titles, too?
For some bands I have a few choices. Please tell me which you like the best. And add to my list! 1. Modest Mouse - "Dirty Fingernails" or "Bury Me With It" or "This Devil's Workday" or "Satin in a Coffin"
2. Radiohead - "Bodysnatchers"
3. No Age - "Things I Did When I Was Dead"
4. Clinic - "The Equaliser" (This song scared the shit out of me when I saw them live. I went to the show alone one of my first weekends in Austin. When I showed up they were wearing surgical masks and there were strobe lights and the crowd was pulsing.)
5. Air - "Dead Bodies" or "Ghost Song" or "Dark Messages"
6. Chromatics - "The Killing Spree"
7. Arcade Fire - "Black Mirror"
8. Atlas Sound - "Small Horror" or "Bite Marks"
9. HEALTH - "Die Slow" or "Death" (not that crazy about this band but they're scary)
10. Fuck Buttons - "Ribs Out" (god this song is so creepy)
11. CocoRosie - "Bloody Twins"
12. My Bloody Valentine - "Nothing Much To Lose" or "Loomer"
13. Broken Social Scene - "Frightening Lives"
14. Múm - "Abandoned Ship Bells" or "The Ghosts You Draw on My Back"
15. Spoon - "The Ghost of You Lingers" (Is this scary enough though?)
16. Boards of Cananda - "The Devil Is in the Details" (but Boards of Cananada has much scarier songs than this I think, don't you?)
17. Pinback - "Devil You Know"
18. The Radio Dept. - "Pet Grief" (not scary but sort of haunting?)

Things are dunzo with K! VAIR RELIEVED. In a streak of cleverness, I made it so that he broke up with me. Beautiful.
Except who will call me pretty and drive me to Big Star? My life is rl rl hard.
Unfortunately my friends' break-ups this week were not so happy. This weekend should cheer them up. The Dodos play Saturday at Orange Show, doors open at 7. Tapas for my bday at the toho before. If you buy tickets ahead of time they're $10, $15 at the door.

| I wouldn't like death if death were good |
[21 Sep 2009|06:38pm] |
Ra Ra Riot is playing with Maps and Atlases this Friday.
Go ahead, call me a filthy hipster. I don't care. It's my birthday weekend. Currently working on a d8 for the show. (Special K? Brendan? SO MANY CHOICES.) Unfortunately my ex-boyfriend will be there. Don't even ask how I know this, ugh. I don't care that much as long as I look cute, which I will.
Blergh, missed my Laurels meeting today but luckily will be there for Club Fair. If I miss my next meeting (for Propaganda) I'm surely to be voted out of the group Survivor style.
Also, The Horrors are playing with The Crocodiles this Thursday at Walter's. I got a chance to download both their albums, and they're not bad. The Horrors have this angry My Bloody Valentine sound quality.
Also, are The Horrors Spinal tap? Bc I think mehbeh they are a lil bit. Exhibit A:

 Hosts with the mosts!
Mine are Dutch chocolate with mocha frosting. Steven's are vanilla with fresh blackberry frosting. Also, please note our trendy faded jeans, the new macbook and the fixed gear bike. (Her name is Psyche.) We're so hip it hurts. Isn't baking supposed to be hip, too?

Why is the photo quality this awful? I think I'm done with digital. Time for an upgrade to something real.

The new headphones have arrived.
I probably should have gone with classic black even though we know that's not me. I highly recommend you get a pair. It's changed Broken Social Scene. It's as if I'm listening to them for the first time, kind of like watching video tapes all your life then seeing a film in the theater.

7. Zodiac symbols 6. Almost anything drawn in Microsoft Paint 5. Animated, glittering letters 4. Emoticons 3. Robert Pattinson 2. All Twilight images 1. Mary Kate Olsen
Am I forgetting anything? An icon of your kid is a little creepy, too. I've never understood parents' desire to plaster their behbeh's photos in public forums.
Natalie Portman's face annoys me also.

JPatt: I'm in ur pics, bein' a hipster!
RULES OF HIPSTER PORTRAITURE PHOTOGRAPHY 1) Use outdated and obsolete photographic technology 2) Never have your subject look at or otherwise acknowledge the camera 3) As your subject to smirk, not to smile
Look at this fucking Kodak moment.
Time for a noncommittal dance party!
Mo got “randomly selected” by the Department of Hipster-land Security to be searched and photographed; not because he’s Pakistani, but because we weren't sure he was hip enuff.
And here's a few from my album:

(captions are pending)
In other news, I think I'm sick. I may or may not have the airborne AIDS or a mutant combo of bird + swine flu.
